Leading designer of racing yachts who produced 2,200 boats, among them six winners of the America's Cup.


Olin Stephens, who died on September 13 aged 100, was the most revered  yacht designer of the 20th century. Together with his brother Rod and the yacht broker Drake Sparkman, he founded the New York naval architectural practice,  Sparkman & Stephens.

1992 Beppe Croce Trophy Awarded To Olin J STEPHENS II


The President and Executive Committee of the International Yacht Racing Union are pleased to announce that the 1992 recipient of the Beppe Croce Trophy is Olin J STEPHENS II (USA). Throughout an extraordinarily productive career, Mr Stephens brought innovative designs to the sport of yachting. Since 1930, Sparkman and Stephens designs have represented the pinnacle of naval architecture in the modern era.
